On Masks and Sequels

I'll start this post by saying that Zelda: Majora's Mask (MM) is my favorite game of all time. I stand by this statement and will hopefully show and tell you why this is not only the best game in the Zelda series, but why it's more then just an expansion of Zelda: Ocarina of Time(OOT).

True Sequel: This isn't the first Legend of Zelda game that is a direct sequel, but it was the first to do it right. This game picks up at the end of OOT and has link searching for a "Friend." We already know the main character, but now we have a new world to explore. There's also nods to characters from OOT, like the windmill man and carpenters, and there are new characters, like Kafei and Anju, Sakon, etc. Old faces are what make anything a sequel, and adding new things such as characters, settings, stories, is what completes a true sequel.

Masks: Everyone knows what a mask is, and if you don't... I guess that would be really sad, wouldn't it? There are 24 collectible masks in MM, but you aren't required to get any of them besides the transformation masks. If you do feel like doing all the side quests, which is my next point, you will see what getting a mask really means. See, you'll only receive a mask by helping someone, and that means each of the 24 masks have a story with them. Real quick, lets see what two of these really are.

  • Mask of Scents: You get this by beating the Deku Butler in a race. He makes a comment on how he's sorry he moved so fast, because racing you reminded him of racing his son. You never really notice it during the story, but the first deku you meet in the game is the Deku Butler's son, or rather his "corpse." From that, you can assume that Link's Deku form is actually the Deku Butler's Son's original form. In a way, giving Link this mask is really the Deku Butler returning it to his son.

  • Bunny Hood: You get this "Mask" by helping out Grog at Romani Ranch by turning his baby chicks into full grown cuccos. This is a guy who just wants to see the chicks reach adulthood before they're killed by the Moon. Using another mask, you can turn them into adults, which makes Grog happy and you get this mask. Why get this from Grog? because he's done running. Now that the chicks are fully grown, he's accepted that he's going to die soon, and he gives you the chance to run with the Bunny Hood.
Again, since this is my favorite game, I'm going to take a bit longer to talk about it. I'll keep talking till I'm out of things to say about it, and hopefully I'll be more structured in the next post. Also, I'm a huge fan of sequels, and soon I'm going to explain why my second favorite game of all time is Bioshock 2.

Just Getting Started

So, I did it. I made a blog. I can now put words onto the world wide web and have people potentially read them! Yay!

Anyways, my mission statement here is to write about things that are interesting to me. Things like video games, comics, events, my own personal stuff, so on and so forth.

I'll also try to update as much as possible in order to keep myself sane in the coming weeks, since I've got nothing better to do.

So, yea, hopefully I'll say some stuff worth listening to, otherwise you can go waste your time on reddit or youtube or something...
